Khun Surin - Licensee
|
LIST was founded by my husband, Paul De Muth, in 1993. Paul devoted his time and energy into developing a school for our children and the community. Unfortunately, soon after the doors opened, the tragic and untimely death of my loving and caring husband left much unfinished work. It was up to my children and I to see that his dreams and livelihood lived on by making the school into what we knew it could be.
LIST is a special place for my family and I. It has flourished into something more than I ever expected. I’ve been able to draw together educators and staff that share my vision of making LIST into a place where children can receive a great education without it costing a fortune. Every day holds a new challenge, but as long as I continue to make LIST a place where children enjoy coming to further their education then I believe I’ve successfully carried on Paul’s dream. “I thank the community of students, parents and teachers that help make this a special place that I continue to believe in and work long hours to make as good as it can be.”

Khun Georgene - Business Manager
|
B.S. in Finance, Metropolitan State College of Denver
As the daughter of founder Paul E. DeMuth and Khun Surin, I was one of the first LIST students when the doors officially opened in 1993. I had the unique opportunity to hear first-hand the vision Paul had for the students and community. Paul wanted to keep families together and help the community expand upon its English to further future academic opportunities.
I have over 12 years of Finance and Accounting experience. I am excited to help carry-out the LIST vision. |

Ajarn Cherdchaisiri Supimonprapas (Pom) - School Director
|
B.Ed. Chulalongkorn University; Post Graduate Certificate in Educational Administration, Far Eastern University
I have been working in the field of education for 38 years. I worked at Chulalongkorn University for 3 years before moving to the USA to study at Texas A&M University. I stayed there for 10 years. During that time I worked as a volunteer English teacher, working with refugees who could not speak any English. When I came back to Thailand I joined Chiltralada Royal School as a computer and English teacher. I had been working there for 15 years before moving to Chiang Mai to take care of my ageing mother. I then began working as a Director of a language institute at North-Chiang Mai University. After 4 years I moved to take up my current position as Director at Lanna International School Thailand. It is exciting to now work in the totally different atmosphere of LIST; a British international school. Working here has given me many new challenges and experiences – every day is a rewarding and stimulating experience. |

Mr Roy Lewis - Head of School
|
B.A. (Hons) Geography, Manchester University; PGCE Manchester University; Cambridge Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA); F.R.G.S.; IB Examiner; Member of NEASC Accreditation teams
After working for over twenty years as a teacher, examiner and administrator at both university and secondary school levels, up to Oxbridge entrance, my passionate interest in wildlife and travel led me to look for positions in international schools. Thus I experienced a variety of schools, programmes and living environments in South Africa, Chile and Turkey. Having survived a 'civil war' and several coups I joined LIST in 2003 as Head of School, and have now been in this position longer than the combined total of my predecessors. I have seen the school grow in so many ways, whilst retaining the caring atmosphere that it has always had. I have never worked in a school with such a great community spirit and I am truly appreciative of the support I have had over these past years from the Lanna community in helping me try to achieve the vision I have for this wonderful school. |

Mr Hugh Williams - Primary Principal
|
B.Ed. Charles Sturt University and Oregon State University, majoring in TESL and Intercultural Educational.
Having taught in Primary schools throughout Australia, my passion for education truly blossomed on my first overseas assignment in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. After working at Chiang Mai University and Satit CMU Demonstrational School here in Chiang Mai, I moved to Lanna International School in 2006 as the Year 6 teacher. I was amazed at the family atmosphere of the school and the unique relationship between students, parents and staff that only a small school could offer. I was proud to be later appointed to my current role as Primary School Principal and hold the vision to further develop the school into the greatest place to be! |

Mr Kevin Pugh - Secondary Principal
|
BA (Hons) Geography with Environmental Management - Wolverhampton University; PGCE Geography and ICT - Keele University; TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) - Sheffield University
I worked as an teacher in England for 9 years prior to moving to Chiang Mai and joining this very special, positive and friendly little school. I currently have the privilege to work with a great team of educators who are focused on improving the learning experience and are always looking for innovative ways to move forward. I have been at LIST for eight years now and find it to be a warm, friendly, but also hugely purposeful and stimulating school to work in. I work alongside a great team of teachers and a wonderfully active body of students. We are a real community of learners at LIST - and I include myself in that. I am currently working part-time on my Masters of Educational Leadership with Leicester University (UK); with a specialism in educational technology. |

Mr Yadt - Registrar
|
BA Business Administration with Human Resources Management, Rajabhat University; Certificate in Electronics, Chiang Mai Polytechnic College; Certificate in ROTC Commander
I started to work at LIST in 1993. At that time we had only 20 students in the whole school. I worked initially as a manager, before taking over the role of School Registrar, that I hold now. I have loved being at LIST from the beginning. It has been a pleasure to see it grow and develop. From 20 students when the school first opened we now have 283 students. It makes me proud and very happy. I run the ROTC programme at LIST, and we have been a member of ROTC33 since 2005. We have been very successful in this. The LIST community is one that I am very proud of, and I don't have any problem from our students at all. They are always polite and kind. I like to see them have a good education and go on to have a good future after they graduate. It's very nice how many students come back to let me know how they have got on. |

Mr Tim Creber - Marketing and Admissions
|
Certificate of Education, English and Physical Education; Master of Science in Education Management (both in Sheffield)
I first taught in England for about fifteen years and for the past twenty-five years or so I have held managerial positions and been Director in a number of international schools. I worked in Dubai and the Sultanate of Oman and in international schools in Thailand for about fifteen years, including NIST in Bangkok and Dulwich International College in Phuket. I have also helped schools in a consultancy role and my most recent position was Director of an international school in Burma. I have been impressed by the smooth organization, good teaching and friendliness at Lanna since my son joined the school in 2010. The school manages to balance the quest for academic excellence with the all-round development of students in a supportive and caring atmosphere. My aim is to make a positive contribution in any way I can to the further development of what is already a very good school. |

I then ventured here to Thailand and was employed at Prep International School in Pathumtani for 3 months, before deciding that Bangkok life is not really for me. I have been teaching here at LIST for 7 years, teaching the Foundation Years classes and still enjoying and loving my job. LIST is very supportive of its teachers in our Professional Development. I myself have gained certificates in EYFS curriculum, Play therapy, Becoming a Compass School (Sustainability); and we do much more within the school together. Being at Lanna makes me feel at home. The Administrators, Staff, Parents and Students treat you like a family. There’s no place like Lanna! |

Ms Kristin - Reception Class Teacher

Teaching has given me the opportunity to experience many different places and cultures. I began my career as a special education teacher in Tacoma, Washington where I taught secondary students for three years. My husband and I then decided to broaden our horizons by teaching in a small Inupiat Eskimo village in Pt. Lay, Alaska. It was here that I was able to teach preschool and kindergarten in a village of 200. After spending three years in Alaska, we moved back to my hometown in Colorado where I was a primary special education teacher, reading specialist and middle school special education teacher. After five years in Colorado, we were ready to experience something new so we made the move to Chiang Mai. My husband, Kip, and I feel very fortunate to work at Lanna International School where we feel a real sense of community and support. I have a great love for teaching the younger grades, and I couldn’t have a better job. |

After a year in a London nursery school, I was given the opportunity to set up a Reception class at a school in Ewell, Surrey where I stayed for three years. From there I spent a few enjoyable and fulfilling years teaching at a boys' choir school in Reigate, Surrey. My husband and I decided to try teaching abroad and after 13 interesting years in a very large school in Kuwait, we were fortunate to move to Chiang Mai. Now, in my sixth year at LIST, I enjoy the warm, friendly atmosphere of the school. It is a wonderful place to work, with great students, parents and staff creating a really happy community. I also like my job because everyday is different and there is always something to do. |

I taught middle school Science and Maths at first, then had a chance to work in the Primary Section of the International British Academy. I moved to Chiang Mai four years ago and have been working at LIST since then. I’m glad I made that career change! My job as a teacher gives me great fulfillment and satisfaction. |

Mr Koi- Year 4 Assistant Teacher
|

After I graduated from Yonok college I worked for a local newspaper in Lampang named “Lanna Post”. My position was as a columnist and also working in marketing. I spent six months there. I then had a great opportunity to join the Lampang Educational Office, Area 3, as librarian. I spent 2 and a half years at that place before joining V-Sign Media Express, where I worked as an accountant. After V-Sign I came to work at LIST. I worked here as a librarian for two years before moving to become assistant teacher for year 4. The school provides me a good atmosphere, and a good experience to grow and learn; I very much enjoy my job here. I am developing as a teacher, and enjoy working alongside my co-teacher. |

Mr Alex - Year 6 Class Teacher
|
PGCE Primary Education, London South Bank University, UK; CELTA, ECC, Chiang Mai, Thailand; BA (Hons) Archaeology, University of Exeter, UK; PADI Scuba Diving Instructor
After narrowly avoiding the tsunami, the SARS epidemic, and terrorist bomb plots whilst at the same time guiding tourists around the coral reefs of the Andaman Sea and leading them through the jungles of S.E. Asia, I eventually settled on a more stable and less risky career in teaching. Starting out as an English as a Second Language Teacher here in Chiang Mai, I quickly moved into the wilds of deepest Isaan where I taught as a homeroom teacher in the English Programme of a Thai Primary School for 3 years. Upon realising that this was my kind of gig, I then returned to the UK to complete my PGCE before the lure of Chiang Mai once again beckoned me back and I joined the staff of Lanna in 2011. I currently teach Year 6 in the Primary Department. |

Around 5 years ago I decided that a career change was needed and so I enrolled on the CELTA course in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. On completion of the course I remained in Vietnam for 3 years and taught English to Primary students. I have just started at LIST this year and am thoroughly enjoying my role as an ESL Teacher to years 2 and 3. I find the students delightful and eager to learn and my colleagues have been amazingly welcoming and helpful. LIST is a great school with a wonderful atmosphere and I feel very lucky to be part of such a good team. |

After completing my PGCE I worked as a Primary school teacher in East London, which was a rewarding position and gave me experience of teaching in a multicultural work environment. I first came to Chiang Mai in 2009 and really liked the atmosphere. I worked at a Thai school here before joining the LIST staff. This is my second year at LIST and I love working with the supportive staff and the students who are always eager to learn. LIST encourages staff to continue their professional development, which I believe keeps all of us up-to-date on different aspects of the teaching profession. Before becoming a teacher I worked in HR and customer relations in Manchester, England. I really enjoy living and working in Chiang Mai. |

After completing TESOL and teaching in Barcelona for a while, I arrived in Chiang Mai, and initially taught English as a foreign language at Montfort College. After two years, I returned to the UK in order to gain the necessary qualifications which would allow me to develop a career as an international school teacher. After qualifying, I returned to Chiang Mai and began teaching at Lanna. That was six years ago. I have worked with all year groups and all different levels of English. As the school has expanded its academic program, I have had the opportunity to work with increasingly ambitious students in achieving the very high academic standards demanded by A-level English Language and Literature. It is the students and their open-minded attitude which, for me, make coming to work a positive experience; I have not worked at a school where there was such a positive and productive relationship between staff and students. |

Mr Bob - Secondary ESL
|
M.S.W. /L.C.S.W. University of Tennesee, Knoxville Tennessee, USA; B.S. Ed Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio USA; TESOL/ Autism Trainer/ Learning Disabilities Trainer; NGO Trainer

For example I helped to set up Ke Kula Ho’onaua’ao as an alternative education program for disaffected Hawaiian youth. I now spend a lot of money and time ensuring poor Thai and Hilltribe kids get educational opportunities. My oldest kid is now a junior at Saraphatchan College. LIST is one of the most rewarding, warm and friendly, sheer fun places I have ever been a part of. In 2009 I was lured away to assist a friend in rebuilding a struggling international school in Bangkok but eventually found my way to Mexico to teach high school English, as family matters pressed me to be closer to the USA. Ms Julie - Intensive English Assistant Teacher
|

I taught English at The Prince Royal’s College for 9 years before coming to work at this school. I was originally employed to work with grade 5, especially to work closely with a boy who had difficulties in learning and socialising; his condition was later diagnosed as Autism. After I had worked with this little boy for about three months we came to a breakthrough which led to major positive changes for him. This little boy taught me a lot and inspired me to continue to work as a teacher. Lanna gives me a lot of good things to learn and to appreciate. |

Ms Nicola - Intensive English
|
BA(Hons) Business Management and Administration, New College Durham; Higher National Diploma in European Travel and Tourism, New College Durham; TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)

I completed an English teaching course and moved to Thailand. I now have more than 6 years of ESL teaching experience in Thailand and have come to call Chiang Mai my home. Prior to working at LIST I taught in various schools, specialising in teaching phonics and reading skills. I am proud to be a part of the Intensive English programme at LIST as I believe it to be a wonderful opportunity for students to push towards English proficiency. I am also proud to be a part of the LIST teaching staff. |

Mr Roland - Mathematics
|
M.S. Structural Engineering (Civil Engineering); B.Ed. Graduate Diploma in Teaching, University of Winnipeg
After I finished High School I worked as a Bank Representative for several years, but it was not challenging and inspiring enough for me to continue in the long-term. I have always loved mathematics (which might be strange to some people!) and its applications. I therefore decided to change direction and studied structural engineering. After graduation I worked as a Structural Engineer in Germany and in Switzerland for several years. In 2001 I gave myself a break and travelled around Asia including Thailand. I worked for the Chiang Mai University and afterwards, in 2005, started to teach mathematics at LIST (IGCSE, A-level, AP math). I enjoy my work here very much, and I love to be amongst young people, helping them to see the beauty of mathematics and all of its applications. In my leisure time I used to work as a divemaster; I still go diving, but it's a little difficult here in the North of Thailand, I therefore now cycle up and down the mountains and enjoy the beautiful countryside instead. |

Mr Alan - Science (Biology)
|
M.Sc. Molecular Biology, King’s College London; M.I.Biol C.Biol - Surrey College of Technology; B.Ed Oxford University; Cert.Ed Milton Keynes College of Education; TESOL Trinity House london
I began teaching a long time ago in England at a comprehensive school in Milton Keynes. I then moved to Epsom near London to run a Biology department, where I worked for 20 years. During that I time became Head of the Middle section of the school( Y10/11) and also acted as a Deputy Head for a year. Seeking a change I looked to work abroad and spent 12 years in Kuwait, teaching Biology from Y7-13 and as a Year Head. In 2007 I moved to Thailand with the misguided intent of retiring, which never happened. Lanna International School opened its doors and five years later I am here enjoying life and not regretting my failure to retire. The challenge of enthusing students to learn and improve remains a driving force. Lanna has a unique spirit. Its small size (one year group in Kuwait is larger than the whole senior school at LIST), makes it more like a large family, allowing students to mix freely, showing respect and friendship towards each other. |

Mr Dominic - Mathematics
|
M.Sc. Mathematics – University of Madras; B.Sc. Mathematics – University of Madras; B. Ed - Annamalai University; Examiner - ICSE Mathematics since 1996, and IB Diploma since 2010

This was followed by 15 years of service in one of the reputed Jesuit institutions of North-Eastern India, teaching Mathematics to year groups 10 – 13. I began teaching international curriculums, teaching IGCSE and IB diploma at a boarding school in south India. While looking for teaching experience abroad, I got a chance to teach IGCSE and A level Mathematics at LIST. I have been teaching at here since 2009. I enjoy teaching students who want to learn, and so it is a pleasure teaching the students of LIST. They are keen and motivated and above all great individuals. I really love and enjoy the friendly and positive atmosphere of the school. Lanna is a great place to work. |

Mr Phillip - Science
|
PGCE and QTS (Secondary Science - Chemistry specialism); BSc (Hons) Environmental Science, Wolverhampton University
I worked as a teacher for two years in Sheffield, England before coming to Chiang Mai and teaching here. This is my seventh year at Lanna International School, and I was only planning to stay for three or four years. As well as working at Lanna, I have also been working with a couple of NGOs that help to educate Burmese refugees. I teach once a week at BEAM school for Burmese students who wish to move on to higher education. I also work closely with an NGO in Mae Sot, where I help to train teachers at the refugee camps and schools. Before I became a teacher, I worked in several lab and admin positions within the chemical industry. Before that, I worked in a frozen pea factory. My job was to test the tenderness of peas using a machine called a tenderometer. That was my second favourite job after working here at Lanna School - but not a very close second! |

Mr Dan - Geography
|
M.Ed- Curriculum and Instruction, University of West Florida; BA- History, University of Georgia
The 2012- 2013 school year marked my return to Lanna after spending two years teaching in Taiwan and one year in South America and the USA. I had previously worked here for three years in my current position as Geography teacher. Before my first time teaching here, I had spent two years working in Kuwait and one in Florida. I came back to LIST as it was my favorite place to work in terms of students and co-workers during my nine years of teaching. Upon returning, I have been very impressed by the improvements that have occurred in the school during the last few years. These include better use of and access to technology, higher student achievement, and wider variety of academic and extracurricular activities offered. LIST is an institution that is becoming more and more rare to find- a true school community where everyone does their part. Not only doing their jobs as teachers, administrators, or students, but also being willing to do the extra things that make a place more than just a school.. |

Both of these shows were broadcast on the local public access Television in association with the Hope TV magnet program. For two years between 2009 and 2011 I taught art at the Bilkent International school in Ankara Turkey. I am in my second year working in the art department as the art assistant. This has proven to be a very fulfilling job, and something that I enjoy very much. The students at LIST are a pleasure to work with and I enjoy seeing the quality and range of art that they are able to produce. We have a wide range of materials and equipment available to students and they certainly keep me busy preparing what they need. It is never boring working in such a busy and productive department. I look forward to coming to work each day. |

Ms Laila - Business & Travel
|
BA (Hons) - Business and Economics, Sheffield University, UK; PGCE + QTS - Business Education, The University of Manchester, UK
Upon completing my bachelors degree, I took up a position in a well known business and three years later, when I decided it was time that I fulfilled my passion to be a teacher, I finished there as the assistant project manager on the UK’s largest bank’s national re-branding programme. I then had the challenging experience of working as a teacher of Business, Economics and Travel and Tourism to GCSE and A Level students at a specialist Business, Enterprise and ICT Academy in London. I moved abroad in 2007. Since then I have worked at Thai and International schools and colleges and I have been at LIST since 2010 - and hope to be here for many years to come. Throughout my years of working as a teacher, I have tried to continue to develop my knowledge and understanding of the profession and I am currently undertaking a Masters in International Education from the University of Leicester in the UK and I hope this will enable me to offer my students a more insightful education. |
