Intensive Programme
Our IE classes are very small (normally 5 to 8 students) and the programme is taught by well qualified and experienced ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers chosen for their qualifications and experience of teaching students whose first language is not English. In the Intensive English programme the emphasis is on developing reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Specific work is also focused on English grammar, spelling and punctuation. As well as English, students study other subjects such as Mathematics, Drama, Music, ICT, Thai and PE, taught by specialised teachers who understand the difficulties of second language learners. We believe that the balance of subjects, time given to studying English (approximately 70%), and opportunities for students to study with their peers, allows students the opportunity to develop a strong foundation for their future studies at Lanna. When students are ready to leave IE and enter the mainstream classes (assuming spaces in the mainstream are available) they continue to receive large amounts of ESL (English Second Language) support. This decreases over time as the individual students' language skills develop and the support is no longer required. For details of our ESL programme click here. The school uses successful methods of teaching ESL students, using proven up-to-date resources such as course books, DVDs and audio Cds/tapes. Progress is closely monitored and there is a system of assessment that ensures students are in the programme most suited to their needs at any given time. |
