Welcome to the LIST MUN Webspace! What's it all about? Model United Nations as a concept began soon after the formation of the real United Nations. Its aim was to teach young people about the United Nations by simulating its processes. It soon gained a wide following throughout the world and today approximately 60,000 high school and college students take part annually in local, regional or international MUN’s. We now have our very own Chiang Mai MUN. Participants assume roles as ambassadors at the UN (Security Council, General Assembly or its committees) for an assigned country. Students are not permitted to represent their country of citizenship or residence. Delegates negotiate to frame resolutions and debate them under rules based on the rules of debate in the real UN. Debates are chaired by students and all the officials are students. Being a delegate is a challenging experience for high school students. Students must prepare thoroughly by researching the issues for debate, the country they represent and their country’s position on the issues. They must learn to empathise with their country even though it may be one they feel no sympathy for. Understanding and sympathy for the peoples of other cultures is engendered. Ultimately students must be prepared to present their country’s viewpoint in formal debate and to be challenged by questions from the other delegates. Public speaking and debating skills are fostered by this process. All delegates must be attentive and active in their listening and be poised to challenge opposing standpoints. This is a potentially stressful activity for young people but in meeting these challenges students develop self confidence and self esteem.
When is it happening?
This year, as last, there will be a Chiang Mai based Model United Nations. Dates are yet to be confirmed, but Lanna students will certainly be actively involved. Being delegates at an MUN conerence involves a lot of preperation by both students and staff. Thank you to the teachers for giving of their free-time, and thank you to the students who are prepared to take an active role in this, far from easy, activity.
Good luck at the conferences this year! |

What They Say
| My 12 year old daughter has been going to Lanna International School since she was 3. She enjoys going to school each day, is getting a first class education and loves the family environment of the school. I like the small class sizes and the robust British-based curriculum. However, I think Lanna’s greatest asset is its dedicated, caring, teachers. I believe that Lanna is now the best international school in Chiang Mai; in many different ways. | |

| Lanna has a very balanced energy. The focus here is not only on academics; it has a more holistic outlook. Teachers see the individual in each student and help them develop in their own ways. At the same time Lanna is like a family and the students know each other across the grades. The teachers and staff are caring, open-minded and approachable for both students and parents, and they go out of their way to accommodate our needs. We feel our daughter is in very good hands. | |

| Lanna has been my only school since I was 2 years old and frankly I would not have wanted to go to any other school. This really is a special school and all its students should be thankful to be here. | |

| LinKyi (Class of 2010 Graduate) | |
| It was a very small school when I first joined it 13 years ago – I have seen it grow in so many ways but still maintaining its caring and supportive teachers who helped me get to where I am today. | |
| Ken (Class of 2010 Valedictorian) | |
| It is a school which really looks after all of its students. | |
| John (Class of 2009 Graduate) | |
| Lanna taught me how to learn, how to self-study, to develop presentation skills, to be more confident in expressing my opinions and thoughts, to always search for meaning in every academic subject and even social activity; to find a place for myself in this complex world and something I could do to make my life meaningful. | |
| Ann (Class of 2009 Valedictorian) | |
| It is the best school in Chiang Mai – the staff are so supportive and back me up in all I do. | |
| Malie (Class of 2008 Graduate) | |
| Some schools have great infrastructure but there is no atmosphere; LIST has a great atmosphere in which all students are treated as individuals and encouraged to express themselves and develop their individual talents. | |
