Year 6 Students Learn a Lot at Ob-Khan National Park

Year 6 – The Outdoor Types
Field trips are an invaluable aspect of an education at Lanna International School, giving students the chance to get 'hands-on' with their units of study. As part of their Geography unit 'Investigating Rivers', Year 6 set off into the wilderness of Ob-Khan National Park to see the skills and concepts learnt in class come alive in an outdoor setting.
Amongst many of the lessons and activities done on the trip, children learnt how to investigate places, undertake fieldwork, make plans and maps and understand how rivers erode, transport and deposit materials producing particular landscape features. Using an array of geographical vocubulary, the children were guided along the river and encouraged to identify its features and those of the surrounding landscape, including large sand deposits along the banks, the confluence of the two rivers, a significant meander, some low-level white water rapids and the differences in change of height and width of the river. In a challenging aspect of the trip students also were given a section of the map and challenged to identify their current location using compasses and map reading skills. Wow!
And what better way to appreciate the river after a long day of trekking, exploring and learning than to cool off in the water itself with a relaxing swim. So refreshing!

Foundation Years Visit Parks and Gardens

Foundations Years Go out and about
Suan Buak Park, 23 August
The Foundations Years class had a great time getting to know each other at the Suan Buak Park in Chiang Mai. They fed the fish and pigeons, played together at the playground and participated in many group games. They also experienced new things while working together as a class.
King Rama 9 Garden, 30 August
As an introduction to our “Five Senses” unit, we went to King Rama 9 in Mae Rim. We were in small groups where we explored and wrote down things we heard, saw, smelled, touched and tasted. This activity introduced us to new vocabulary that was used for later classroom discussions.
