Year 3 used their imagination to build upon a study of ceremonial hats and royal regalia which appear in many cultures and which are worn on specific occasions. We created paintings which have other materials added to represent jewelry, embossed metal (including gold and silver), embroidery and cloth. Landscapes were developed behind the figures. We looked at how shapes are used to “frame” a face and give it importance. Each student made “a hat for a Prince or Princess” around a picture of their own face which was taken on a digital camera and adapted using the art room computers.
