The Student Council

Lanna’s Secondary Student Council provides leadership opportunities and fosters student responsibility. Participation in the Student Council is open to all students from Year 7 to Year 13. The Council is made up of a representative from each year, elected by his/her peers, and a president elected by all students in Years 7 to 13. A candidate for president must be in good academic standing and must ask two teachers to provide written recommendations.

The Student Council has the responsibility of improving the quality of student interaction, morale and social life. It also communicates the needs of the student body to the faculty and administration. The Student Council, in conjunction with the faculty advisor, plans events and programs that would be of interest to the students and the school community. Student Council activities have included community service projects as well as social events.

A message from the Student Council:
Lanna Student Council is here to help students and school in any way, from organizing social events to enforcing the wearing of school uniform. The student council has been in action for a few years and it has been very successful over that time.

This year the student council consists of 15 members and a very lively teacher “Mr. Dan” to help coordinate us.

A new position of fundraiser coordinator has been added this year, taken up by Ice of Year 10. The money we raise from fundraisers gets reinvested into the activities we do. We are continuing to have a Mufty day every month in order to raise some money and to give students a chance to wear clothes that they would never be able to wear in school otherwise.

Whatever we do, we try our best. This year we worked with the PTO by selling drinks at the PTO events and by providing help when needed. We look forward to working with the PTO again in the future. We are planning to have 2 socials this year, one to celebrate mid-winter festivals, in December, and also a Formal Prom at the end of the academic year. Our aim is not to make a profit, but to fulfill the needs of Lanna students.

This school year we are proud to announce the formation of the Elementary Student Council. This council is made up of 2 students from each of Years 4, 5, and 6 as well as their supervising teacher - the esteemed Mr. Joe. The Elementary Council meets once a week so that the specific needs of elementary students can be heard. They also have begun to organize their own events, such as Elementary Movie Night. Although they meet separately, the Elementary and Secondary Student Councils are a single unit and each group reports regularly to the other.

Student Council Masquerade Prom - June 1st 2007

This year’s Student Prom was once again a great success. Masks were required wear for all those attending this year’s Prom. There was a contest for best mask and, of course, the Prom King and Queen contest, which produced very surprised and reluctant winners. The judges’ decisions, however, were final; and crowns were awarded to Queen Kirsten and King Apple. A fine looking Prom King and Queen I’m sure we can all agree.
