Examination Success at Lanna, 2009

At LIST we strive to continue to improve the quality of education that we provide in every sense, year after year, and our consistently improving examination results are testament to the success that we are achieving. We continue to expand the Secondary programme so that your children can develop academically, socially and in areas of the arts and sport. Our programme is based around the International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE) courses which are taken by all our Year 11 students and in some cases by older students. These are demanding courses recognised worldwide for the skills that students develop and the knowledge and understanding they gain.

This year 80% of our students examination results were at grades C and higher; 90% were D and higher. One of our students attained a very impressive 9 IGCSE passes: 4 at A* (the highest possible grade), 3 at A, 1 at B, and one at C (an advanced level course usually not examined during Y11).

We are very pleased indeed!

In Years 12 and 13 all of our students are now studying more advanced courses: the UK's International 'AS' and 'A' level courses. The level of these programmes is much higher than that of IGCSE and is equivalent in most cases to college level in North American Universities. Success in these higher level courses enables students to apply for and gain admission to universities throughout the world. The success that our students have achieved this year at IGCSE level ensures that they have a solid foundation for study at Advanced level.

LIST's Secondary programme is challenging. Indeed it is more challenging than Secondary programmes offered by many other international schools. This highlights the success of our students.

IELTS Examination Success

During the last academic year nine of our Year 13 students took the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) tests and demonstrated a very good command of the English language. All nine achieved grades that would allow them to study at their chosen university, and seven of the 9 scored 6.5 or above (6.5 or 7 is the usual entry requirement for major, well respected, international universities) - an excellent achevement.

IELTS is one of the recognised English proficiency tests required by most Australian, British, Canadian, Irish, New Zealand and South African academic institutions, by more than 1,800 academic institutions in the United States, and by various professional organizations. It is also a requirement for immigration to Australia and Canada.
