Visit to Payap University by Year 12 and 13 students– Thursday October 4th 2007

On Wednesday 7th November all students in years 12 and 13 were invited to visit Payap University, accompanied by Mrs Joan and Mr Alan. Leaving after break, the party arrived shortly before 11 a.m. for an introductory presentation in one of the many lecture theatres, given by the president of the university. The students learned about the origins of the university, its foundation, its principles of education for life and its possible future development. This was followed by presentations from the vice president and the Dean of the International Program courses. Here students were made aware of the organisation of the university, the operation of the international courses, application procedures and the facilities available. The details of all the International Program courses were given by the Dean, followed by a question and answer session for the students to clarify information and make enquiries of their own.

Payap were kind enough to satisfy hungry appetites with an open air lunch in the foyer of the Siridorn Library building. After lunch the students were taken on a tour of the excellent, modern library facilities to view the multimedia suite and other sections available for use. The building also houses a museum dedicated to Lanna history and culture, as well as its own university museum.

Finally the students were allowed to visit the modern dormitories available for students undertaking courses in the International Program, to find out what living on a university campus has to offer. The students had opportunity here to meet with Lance, Lee and Anita, all students on the international course, who conducted the tour of the library and residential building

The offer from the university to visit was eagerly taken up because of the opportunity it provided for our students to experience what a university campus is really like. It is difficult to judge what impact the visit had on our students until they have had time to consider the day but many expressed interest in looking into the courses on offer, whilst Teddy and Bunny began looking into application processes. More may follow when they consider that one real advantage of the international courses offered, is that they may get an opportunity to study abroad for 1 or 2 years as part of their course, whilst paying fees at Payap University rates! Altogether the day was enjoyed by all, and a valuable opportunity to get close to what the future may hold for many.

Mr Alan and Ms Joan
