Lanna was founded by my husband, Paul, in 1993. Paul devoted his time and energy into developing a school for our children and the community. Unfortunately, soon after the doors opened, the tragic and untimely death of my loving and caring husband left much unfinished work. It was up to my children and I to see that his dreams and livelihood lived on by making the school into what we knew it could be.
LIST is a special place for my family and I. It has flourished into something more than I ever expected. I’ve been able to draw together educators and staff that share my vision of making LIST into a place where children can receive a great education without it costing a fortune. Every day holds a new challenge, but as long as I continue to make LIST a place where children enjoy coming to further their education then I believe I’ve successfully carried on Paul’s dream. “I thank the community of students, parents and teachers that help make this a special place that I continue to believe in and work long hours to make as good as it can be.”

More than twenty years working in the educational field, it has been a long journey. I worked for a language school teaching career people to speak English for 6 years before moving to Nakornpayap International School where I stayed for 19 years. There, I worked as a teacher assistant, Kindergarten teacher, Thai teacher, Thai Principal, and finally Deputy Director. In 2013, I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to take on my current position as Director at Lanna International School.
LIST is quite a special place, with a warm, family feeling among staff and students, maintaining high expectations for all kinds of achievement. To me that is the charm of LIST. It is exciting to work in the different atmosphere of LIST. I’m sure that working here will make me full of smiles.

After working for over twenty years as a teacher, examiner and administrator at both university and secondary school levels, up to Oxbridge entrance, my passionate interest in wildlife and travel led me to look for positions in international schools. Thus I experienced a variety of schools, programmes and living environments in South Africa, Chile and Turkey.
Having survived a ‘civil war’ and several coups I joined LIST in 2003 as Head of School, and have now been in this position longer than the combined total of my predecessors. I have seen the school grow in so many ways, whilst retaining the caring atmosphere that it has always had. I have never worked in a school with such a great community spirit and I am truly appreciative of the support I have had over these past years from the Lanna community in helping me try to achieve the vision I have for this wonderful school.

Before arriving in Thailand, I studied in Costa Rica for a short time, teaching both ESL and English literature. It is there that I learned the true sense of community and respect for the planet. I returned to the USA where I had the opportunity to teach in a low-income school district where I taught English language and literature to high-risk students for three years. It is there that I learned the true sense of patience and genuine empathy for others. I made the decision to move and teach abroad on an impulsive whim. After I finished High School I worked as a Bank Representative for several years, but it was not challenging and inspiring enough for me to continue in the long-term. I have always loved mathematics (which might be strange to some people!) and its applications. I therefore decided to change direction and studied structural engineering. After graduation I worked as a Structural Engineer in Germany and in Switzerland for several years.
Afterwards I gave myself a break and travelled around Asia including Thailand. I worked for the Chiang Mai University and afterwards, in 2005, started to teach mathematics at LIST (IGCSE, A-level, AP math). I enjoy my work here very much, and I love to be amongst young people, helping them to see the beauty of mathematics and all of its applications. In my leisure time I used to work as a divemaster; I still go diving, but it’s a little difficult here in the North of Thailand, I therefore now cycle up and down the mountains and enjoy the beautiful countryside instead.

I began teaching Biology in a large, new, Comprehensive school in Milton Keynes U.K. I then moved to Ewell in Surrey to be Head of Biology and teach science throughout a much smaller school. A very enjoyable school not dissimilar in ethos and atmosphere to LANNA, and in my 20 years there I also became Head of Middle School (Y10/11) for many years and acted as Deputy Head for a year. After some 20 years in tyhe UK I needed new challenges which resulted in moving to teach overseas. Firstly for 12 years in Kuwait, experiencing 3 schools teaching the English curriculum and being Head of Year and Head of Biology. All the schools were large with 1 year group outnumbering the whole Secondary school at LANNA when I first started.. My wife and I looked to retirement in Chiang Mai but that has not happened yet as Lanna offered us both jobs - some 13 years ago. I have not regretted that decision because I still enjoy teaching Biology and science and derive pleasure from motivating students to do their best and appreciate how the world around them operates. LANNA has unique qualities, becoming larger and very successful, yet retaining a 'family' atmosphere within the school community.

I have been teaching Physical Education since 2009 in a wide range of schools and settings, both internationally and in the UK. I am now beginning my fifth year as the Athletic Director at LANNA, and am happy to continue to be a part of such a fantastic school community. I am passionate about developing our PE curriculum and sports programme, as I truly believe in the value this subject offers in developing students both physically and mentally, and helping them to become the best and healthiest versions of themselves they can be. I am particularly proud of the progress that has been made by both our individual student athletes and teams, the growing popularity of examination PE, and the ever-increasing numbers of students particpating regularly in extra-curricular activities. The aim of our department is to continue to grow our programme, and enjoy further success, whilst ensuring that we remain inclusive and supportive of all students. Go Lions!

Upon completion of my teacher training in Canada, I quickly escaped the cold to find myself teaching reception in Phuket. I then returned home to the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Jasper, Alberta where I continued to work with reception aged students in a predominantly outdoor learning environment. Through these experiences, I developed a deep love for early childhood education. I then went on to roles working with children in Year Three and Year Four until 2019. Just when I decided it was time for a new adventure, I was offered the position in Chiang Mai at Lanna. I eagerly accepted and quickly formed a deep love for this beautiful city and Northern Thai culture.
I am passionate about creating rich and meaningful learning experiences for both myself and my students and I am committed to this work wholeheartedly. I find particular interest in social emotional learning, mindfulness and responsive education. I incorporate this into my teaching each and every day. In my classroom, we begin each day with a morning meeting/ circle time and strongly focus on relationships. We learn, laugh and play together!
It has been a true privilege to work with my creative colleagues this past year. Together, our Year One team is committed to providing your family with support and your children with loving-kindness as they begin their learning journey at our Lanna Primary Campus.

Therefore, these good memories had brought me back to LANNA and now I'm very glad to be back in here as a teacher to teach the early years children.
Through the suport and motivation that I received from my teachers at LANNA, I also want to give this care and guidance to the children and teach them with my passionate heart.

I am a qualified teacher, originally from Melbourne, Australia. After completing degrees in both Education and Teaching, my career path moved into training, HR and change management for corporate organisations.
In 2009 I moved to Thailand with my husband and worked as an ESL teacher at a Kindergarten in Phuket. Returning to teaching children made me realise how much I enjoyed it and this experience led me here to Chiang Mai.
I originally joined LANNA as an English support teacher in 2016 and then became the Admissions Co-ordinator for Primary and Early Years. I have been very fortunate to meet many wonderful LANNA families, students and colleagues along the way.
This year I am excited to be returning to the classroom as part of the Early Years team. My classroom is welcoming and warm, each student is encouraged to play, learn, laugh and have fun. My goal is for my students to be happy and enjoy coming to school. I’m looking forward to experiencing the joy and excitement of learning with our Early Years students and their families.

I have been teaching since 2003 and started my first teaching career in the Philippines before I moved to Thailand and right away fell in love with this amazing country with wonderful people. I joined LANNA in 2003 and worked for 9 years before we ventured out to China to work in another Early Years school. It was a very difficult decision that I had to make during that time. After working in China for almost 3 years, a part of me was missing the life and the community I had at Lanna. Last year I was very fortunate that I was given the opportunity to be part of their community again. I am very greatful that at Lanna I am able to continue my passion in teaching, improve professionally, and be part of the most crucial stage of these childrens lives. I am looking forward for another fruitful year and enjoyable learning for all of us in EY team!

I am a seasoned educator originally from Ireland who sees learning as a journey that never ends, a journey available to us all to take at any time. Having taught young learners for many years I have acquired an abundance of practical, creative, techniques, strategies and ideas that aim to aid the student. I always aspire to empower the learner, to present him/her with the ‘knowledge’, to encourage him/her to apply this knowledge through hands-on application and to facilitate their understanding of the knowledge attained. I value and appreciate the symbiotic nature of the learning process. I joined Lanna Early Years in January of 2020. As the new academic year begins I look forward to it being positively productive.

My philosophy is in teaching the whole child, preparing them for life. Boosting their confidence and communication skills. I believe that every child can learn and every child is amazing in their own unique way. A child will want to learn when they are happy, feeling secure and especially when they feel good about themselves. I firmly believe that a child should receive a well-balanced, vibrant and happy education that prepares them for their fast-changing future.
I started my teaching career in London as a supply teacher. During this time I also worked as Nursery lead teacher in Harlesden, and had a class of 42 Nursery children, of which 90% had an E.S.L background.

BA (Hons) English, University of Lancaster, UK; MA Librarianship, University of Sheffield, UK.
I started my career working as a library assistant in a public library in Stockport, UK. I enjoyed it so much that, after two years, I decided to work towards an MA to become a qualified librarian. Whilst studying I took an inspirational module on children’s libraries, which convinced me that working in school libraries would be a great way to use my skills. When I was qualified I got a job working in an 11-16 Secondary school in Greater Manchester, where I was the school’s first librarian.
After two and a half years I had built up the very small library there, and I wanted something a little bigger, so I moved to a large 11-18 school in Sheffield, where I worked for five years. I came to Thailand to work at Lanna, first as a volunteer in the library, and now, as a full time librarian. I love having the opportunity at Lanna to work with Early Years, Primary and Secondary students in the same job, and I feel that the school is incredibly supportive of the work I do here. It is such an honour to work with people who treasure books and libraries!

BA Dual Hons, French/Spanish at The University of Sheffield; PGCE, Froebel College, RIHE, University of Surrey.
After leaving university, I worked in several fields – medical market research, secretarial jobs, various positions at Middle East Airlines and finally accountancy – before taking up teaching. After a year in a London nursery school, I was given the opportunity to set up a Reception class at a school in Ewell, Surrey where I stayed for three years. From there I spent a few enjoyable and fulfilling years teaching at a boys’ choir school in Reigate, Surrey.
My husband and I decided to try teaching abroad and after 13 interesting years in a very large school in Kuwait, we were fortunate to move to Chiang Mai. Now, in my sixth year at LIST, I enjoy the warm, friendly atmosphere of the school. It is a wonderful place to work, with great students, parents and staff creating a really happy community.
My goal is to provide a good learning environment to guide students to develop their potential.

In 2014 I moved to Thailand where I worked as the Marketing Manager of an online business, before pursuing roles in admissions and marketing management within international education.
The thing I love about this career is that I am able to communicate with people from all over the world and offer them the key to an excellent education in a safe, friendly, engaging and happy environment.

I started to work at LIST in 1993. At that time we had only 20 students in the whole school. I worked initially as a manager, before taking over the role of School Registrar, that I hold now. I have loved being at LIST from the beginning. It has been a pleasure to see it grow and develop. From 20 students when the school first opened we now have over 350 students. It makes me proud and very happy. I run the ROTC programme at LIST, and we have been a member of ROTC33 since 2005. We have been very successful in this. The LIST community is one that I am very proud of, and I don’t have any problems from our students at all. They are always polite and kind. I like to see them have a good education and go on to have a good future after they graduate. It’s very nice how many students come back to let me know how they have got on.
