Lanna was founded by my husband, Paul, in 1993. Paul devoted his time and energy into developing a school for our children and the community. Unfortunately, soon after the doors opened, the tragic and untimely death of my loving and caring husband left much unfinished work. It was up to my children and I to see that his dreams and livelihood lived on by making the school into what we knew it could be.
LIST is a special place for my family and I. It has flourished into something more than I ever expected. I’ve been able to draw together educators and staff that share my vision of making LIST into a place where children can receive a great education without it costing a fortune. Every day holds a new challenge, but as long as I continue to make LIST a place where children enjoy coming to further their education then I believe I’ve successfully carried on Paul’s dream. “I thank the community of students, parents and teachers that help make this a special place that I continue to believe in and work long hours to make as good as it can be.”

More than twenty years working in the educational field, it has been a long journey. I worked for a language school teaching career people to speak English for 6 years before moving to Nakornpayap International School where I stayed for 19 years. There, I worked as a teacher assistant, Kindergarten teacher, Thai teacher, Thai Principal, and finally Deputy Director. In 2013, I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to take on my current position as Director at Lanna International School.
LIST is quite a special place, with a warm, family feeling among staff and students, maintaining high expectations for all kinds of achievement. To me that is the charm of LIST. It is exciting to work in the different atmosphere of LIST. I’m sure that working here will make me full of smiles.

Our vision, to provide "Academic Excellence within a Caring Community" is something that we live, and actively strive towards every day.
At LANNA we have a wonderfully active and engaged body of students - a real community of learners who are a pleasure to know, and grow alongside. As our school grows in size, an ongoing challenge is maintaining the positivity of our students and the close collaboration that we see as LANNA teachers and students work together towards shared goals. Before arriving in Thailand, I studied in Costa Rica for a short time, teaching both ESL and English literature. It is there that I learned the true sense of community and respect for the planet. I returned to the USA where I had the opportunity to teach in a low-income school district where I taught English language and literature to high-risk students for three years. It is there that I learned the true sense of patience and genuine empathy for others. I made the decision to move and teach abroad on an impulsive whim. Although I had never visited Asia before moving here, I have found the transition to Chiang Mai has been a beautiful and exciting journey thus far. I am excited to be a part of such a welcoming community of learners and educators at Lanna.

After I finished High School I worked as a Bank Representative for several years, but it was not challenging and inspiring enough for me to continue in the long-term. I have always loved mathematics (which might be strange to some people!) and its applications. I therefore decided to change direction and studied structural engineering. After graduation I worked as a Structural Engineer in Germany and in Switzerland for several years.
Afterwards I gave myself a break and travelled around Asia including Thailand. I worked for the Chiang Mai University and afterwards, in 2005, started to teach mathematics at LIST (IGCSE, A-level, AP math). I enjoy my work here very much, and I love to be amongst young people, helping them to see the beauty of mathematics and all of its applications. In my leisure time I used to work as a divemaster; I still go diving, but it’s a little difficult here in the North of Thailand, I therefore now cycle up and down the mountains and enjoy the beautiful countryside instead.

My teaching career began in 2011 working in ESL support, during this role I soon realised teaching was my vocation. Since, I have attained further qualifications, including my International Teaching licence (PGCEI) and am currently working towards my UK Qualified Teacher Status. My love of teaching and working with young children dates back to my time coaching football in the USA in 2001. The core principles applied in coaching I have adapted and transposed to the classroom. I aim to motivate children and develop independent, life-long learning behaviours through task orientated activities which both challenge and stimulate the children. Furthermore, I recognize the key role of pastoral care, and aim to create a fun/caring learning environment where all children can access the knowledge and develop key life skills. I am very excited to teach here at Lanna, and very much looking forward to joining such an excellent team of professionals.

Bachelor of Secondary Education, Major in Special Education, Minor in Mathematics – University of the Philippines
I started teaching as a special education teacher in a school for children with severe disabilities in the Philippines. I was trained to provide Applied Behaviour Management and crisis intervention in one-on-one and small group settings. After two years, under the (then) National Institute of Learning Disabilities, USA, I was granted Level 1 Educational Therapist status and I began to provide learning support for students who are in mainstream schools.
I moved to Bangkok in 2005 and eventually to Chiang Mai in 2008 and have been providing in-school learning support services since then. I am currently taking a post–graduate degree in Mathematics Teaching. Moving to Chiang Mai and working for Lanna, a close-knit community, provided me with opportunities to grow and learn as a teacher and as a parent.

Bachelor of Education, University of Winnipeg
The University of Winnipeg's Education Exchange Program brought me to Thailand in 2009 where I taught international students ranging from primary through secondary with most of my experience in maths, science, and ICT. Throughout my experience, I was fortunate to be able to take on STEM leadership roles in International Schools in Bangkok, helping to develop and implement STEM Problem-Based Learning with a focus on solving real-world problems based around the UN's Global Goals for Sustainability. It is through this experience that I have developed a passion for STEM education and guiding children to become active global citizens and to develop their 21st-century skills in order to achieve their highest potential. I look forward to developing and fostering a strong STEM curriculum for the teachers and students of Lanna International School.

BA (Hons) English, University of Lancaster, UK; MA Librarianship, University of Sheffield, UK.
I started my career working as a library assistant in a public library in Stockport, UK. I enjoyed it so much that, after two years, I decided to work towards an MA to become a qualified librarian. Whilst studying I took an inspirational module on children’s libraries, which convinced me that working in school libraries would be a great way to use my skills. When I was qualified I got a job working in an 11-16 Secondary school in Greater Manchester, where I was the school’s first librarian.
After two and a half years I had built up the very small library there, and I wanted something a little bigger, so I moved to a large 11-18 school in Sheffield, where I worked for five years. I came to Thailand to work at Lanna, first as a volunteer in the library, and now, as a full time librarian. I love having the opportunity at Lanna to work with Early Years, Primary and Secondary students in the same job, and I feel that the school is incredibly supportive of the work I do here. It is such an honour to work with people who treasure books and libraries!
