LANNA’s STEAM & Robotics programme runs throughout Early Years, Primary and Secondary.

At LANNA students develop a wide range of skills through its STEAM programme, including problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, design thinking, engineering approaches, and robotics.
In Early Years, STEAM is woven into everyday play through ‘inventions with a purpose’, where children tinker, build, and explore ideas hands-on – inside and outdoors – using loose parts, Bee‑Bots, baking tools, and new VEX 123 kits to develop early sequencing, problem-solving, and collaboration in a story-led, playful way.
In Primary, STEAM becomes a true makers’ journey: students use age-appropriate digital fabrication (like laser cutting and 3D printing), grow their robotics and block-based coding skills through VEX IQ, and apply STEAM thinking through cross-curricular projects connected to science, geography, and mathematics – so every child can design, create, and share meaningful work as part of an inclusive, teamwork-driven culture.
From Year 7 students learn by doing: they’ll build and troubleshoot robots, design and laser-cut standout creative projects, and code their own games to develop real computational thinking and problem-solving habits. As they move through Secondary, they shift from guided foundations to purposeful design – creating products for authentic audiences (like an Earth Day design challenge), researching needs through project-based learning, and presenting their thinking with pride and clarity.
By Year 9, students step into advanced CAD and an exciting, competition-style design-and-build experience, strengthening teamwork, project management, and iteration under real constraints. Assessment feels like real engineering: regular checkpoints, feedback that helps students improve, and end-of-project demonstrations and reflections that build confidence for IGCSE pathways and future careers in technology, engineering, and design.
Beyond Year 9 students further develop focusing on STEAM-Focused Engineering. Students design, test, and improve real solutions.
In November 2025 LANNA was selected to host the inaugural VEX IQ Robotics Competition – ‘Battle of the North’. This is an alternative form of competition – one that moves beyond the traditional sports pitch and instead provides a dynamic, academically focused challenge and celebrates diverse talents. LANNA was chosen as host due to its leadership in robotics within the region and its commitment to expanding the VEX robotics competition format for students across Northern Thailand.
LANNA also provides expert guidance and collaboration opportunities to other local schools.
In January 2026 LANNA participated in the Thailand National VEX Robotics Tournament, entering four teams. We are delighted that one of our LANNA teams reached the play-off stage and another was awarded the ‘Energy Award’.
