At LANNA, reading is at the heart of everything we do. Strong literacy underpins success across the curriculum, from confidence in the classroom to long-term academic achievement. That’s why we are proud to introduce Read Write Inc. as our core phonics programme in Primary Years 1–3.
Read Write Inc. (RWI) is a well-established, evidence-based approach to teaching early reading and writing. Developed by literacy expert Ruth Miskin, it has been used successfully in thousands of British and international schools worldwide for over 20 years. Its reputation is built on strong outcomes, clear structure, and a deep understanding of how children learn to read.
At LANNA, all staff delivering phonics have been formally trained in the programme by official Read Write Inc. coaches and supported by specialist Phonics Champions.
Children are taught in small, focused groups based on their current reading stage rather than age, allowing teaching to be carefully matched to need. This ensures every child feels challenged, supported, and successful.
Lessons are fast-paced, engaging, and highly structured. Children learn to recognise sounds, blend them to read words, and apply these skills immediately through carefully matched reading books. Reading materials are sent home regularly, including digital books accessed through Oxford Owl, helping families support learning at home with confidence.
