Meet Davina, a long-term parent at LANNA, whose children joined back in 2018. Now our Parent Teacher Organisation (PTO) President who chairs our PTO Board Meeting and has a seat at our School’s Executive Board meetings.
Q: Tell us about your family’s experience at LANNA, including when you joined and what attracted you to the school.
Our family joined LANNA in 2018, and from the start it felt like the right place for us. With three children, finding a school that felt supportive and welcoming was really important. We were drawn to the strong sense of community and the way the school looks beyond academics to really care for each child. Seeing our three children thrive over the years has shown us that we made the right choice.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a LANNA parent?
What I enjoy most is the sense of connection. There is a genuine partnership between families, teachers, and staff, and it really feels like everyone is working towards the same goal. As a parent of three children, that consistency and care across the school means a lot. I also really value the diversity of the community and how welcoming it is for families.
Q: What does your role as PTO President involve?
As PTO President, I help bring parents together and support the school by organising events, including our November BBQ, which welcomed over 900 people. I work closely with the administration and other PTO Board members, and a key part of the role is encouraging parents to get involved. We also support student-led organisations, not only financially but by offering guidance and encouragement, helping students develop their ideas into something meaningful. Overall, the focus is on supporting the school and strengthening the sense of connection across the wider LANNA community.
Q: How does the PTO support LANNA’s caring community?
The PTO supports the community by organising events that bring families together, supporting programmes that benefit students, and showing appreciation for teachers and staff. Through events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities, we aim to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued.
Q: What are you looking forward to next at LANNA?
I’m looking forward to continuing to build on the sense of community and finding new ways to involve families. I’m especially excited about the opening of the Innovation Building and the opportunities it will bring for our students. It’s wonderful to see the school continue to grow while staying true to its values.
