The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a globally recognised certificate that allows students to gain recognition for skills and abilities that can often be overlooked in an academic setting.

The programme is available to Secondary Year 10-13 students. It is designed with the aim of promoting independence and self-motivation and for giving students the opportunity to pursue activities that are not traditionally offered in school. Individuals choose a skill, a physical pursuit, and an area of community service, and then work towards achieving self-directed goals. They also have to take part in an ‘adventurous journey’, which takes the form of an extended outdoor activity like hiking, biking, or even canoeing.
There are three levels: bronze, silver and gold, and because it is open to anyone aged fourteen to twenty four, there is plenty of opportunity to continue pursuing higher levels after graduating from LANNA.

The LANNA Youth Action Award is aimed at our younger Secondary students in Years 8 and 9.
This course has been designed in-house to enable our students to challenge themselves to grow in leadership, resilience, and community spirit in preparation for then opting to embark on The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award from Year 10.
Similarly, students are challenged to engage in voluntary service, take on physical recreation, develop new skills and complete a character-building, adventurous overnight journey.
Through these experiences, students strengthen teamwork, problem-solving, and self-belief, all qualities that define a LANNA learner.
